Social Services / Transportation Coordinator Position
Bachelor’s Degree required for this position

Organization and supervision of Family Service Workers within each Head Start Center. Participates in writing of proposals and training plans related to Social Service component. Responsible for documentation and record keeping. May need to make regular home visits to parents, teacher, offering necessary assistance, also investigate problems and to arrange for appropriate services and referrals. Collects data on families participating in program. Periodically visits all program centers to review progress and identify problem areas; recommends remedial actions. Reviews and updates children’s files, when appropriate. Responsible for assuring annual job evaluations for Family Service Workers are completed by providing input from all component heads and teachers. Establishes family outcomes for the program and works toward achieving those goals. Maintains records on social service activities, preparing comprehensive reports as required including enrollment and attendance data.

Knowledge of referral systems to assist parents in solving needs. Ability to communicate with families and to gain their cooperation and participation in activities. Knowledge of day care program objectives and interpretation of rules, regulation, policies and social procedures in the operation of the program. Knowledge of goals, objectives, and functions of community and human services. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals and groups having diverse backgrounds and interests. Computer skills including data entry and e-mail for communication purposes.

Coordinates the Transportation system within the appropriate Federal and State Regulations governing school bus transportation and childcare regulations, in conjunction with the contracted bus company. Assigns and schedules bus aides to cover each program run. Serves as first contact if a child is not met at bus stop. Assists Project Director with weather reports and road conditions in determining transportation/school cancellations. Coordinates schedules for routes and necessary updates, with contractors. Coordinates Medical/Dental schedules, speech, hearing, special testing or treatment daily pick up schedules or new admissions and field trips. Provides information to parents concerning safety, route schedule times, transportation rules etc. Recruits and interviews candidates for Bus Aide. Completes and maintains all records pertaining to transportation as required by the program.

This is a year round position. Located at Main Head Start Office at 321 Spruce Street, Scranton, PA 18503.
